After some level of speculation about the 71 year old’s health, his medical records were released to a select group of reporters today. Some wondered about his past battles with skin cancer which are now being held successfully at bay. According to McCain’s Mayo Clinic Internist Doctor, John McCain is fit and healthy to take on any job - including that of the President of the United States.
Good news certainly for the McCain camp.
But the real story isn’t the political one, it’s how our perceptions of what age entails that is more interesting. As the baby boomers age, the line at which you are now considered old seems to be moving out. When I was a child, anyone over 65 was old. Now that line seems to me more like 75. Keeping fit and healthy is extending our expectation of what we can do as we age. And that’s a good thing.
